What data we collect and why we collect it

Comments, Contact Form, and Subscriptions

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. Comments on this blog are powered by the Jetpack plugin for WordPress, and spam filtering is provided by Akismet.

Readers can opt-in to subscribe to this website via email, by which they will only ever receive notifications of new blog posts. Users can also opt-in to receive email notifications of new replies to comments that they have left on the site. Emails sent from this site are powered by Jetpack, and include a link to unsubscribe from further messages.

I will never sell or disclose your email address.

Cookies and Analytics

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

This website automatically collects standard web server traffic logs about visitors via AWStats.

This website also collects web analytics by integrating with Google Analytics. Google Analytics uses cookies. You can read more about how Google uses this information, and how you can control it in Google’s terms of service.

The primary purpose of collecting traffic information and analytics is for me as a webmaster to better gauge readership of the site and the relative performance of different pages.

This site is a Brave Verified Creator, and has opted in to provide advertisements to users of Brave Browser. Publisher-integrated Ads provide a revenue share to participating Verified publishers and content creators like me, and importantly also provide a revenue share to end users who view and interact with those ads. Unlike the traditional online advertising system, Brave pays users like you for your attention while also preserving your privacy.

Currently, users on web browsers other than Brave will see no advertisements of any kind, although this is subject to change in the future.

Affiliate Relationships

Some posts on this site contain affiliate links. I may receive compensation if you click on any links to products, at no extra cost to you. This does not influence my review or opinions, and I will never recommend products that I have not personally used. Any affiliate links are provided primarily with the purpose of offsetting the operating costs of this site.

No articles on this site have been sponsored, nor have I been compensated in any other manner (such as receiving free or discounted products) in exchange for writing them.
